Crows Nest Registration

Crows Nest Sailing Camp was established over fifty years ago to teach children the basics of boating and further an appreciation for the water and all that it entails. Campers age from seven to sixteen. The camp currently runs for a six week period June through July. The following is an overview of the staffing, curriculum and activities. We believe in teaching "skills for life".

Instructors
All instructors are certified in Red Cross, CPR and have at least a Level One Coaching certification from US SAILING. They are all chosen for their sailing, teaching and personal skills. A high instructor to camper ratio ensures that each participant gets close supervision.

Curriculum
We base our instruction on a combination of Red Cross and US SAILING training and education programs. The safe operation of small sailboats, small powerboats as well other watercraft is stressed. The canpers learn basic seamanship, navigation, rules of the road, weather and many other essential topics.

Facilities & Equipment
MHYC has one of the finest boating facilities on the Great Lakes. We have a fleet of 35 boats ranging in design from single person dinghies to sail boards, catamarans, and various other boats as well. Campers are supervised on the water at all times by instructors in support boats. We have the use of various areas of the clubhouse for holding classes, crafts, and as a place to go when it rains. Recreational swimming and lessons take place in our swimming pool, one of MHYC's great assets. Next...
